Last week, we hosted an insightful talk at Otherlands Coffee Bar with architecture firm archimania, focusing on their design work for Hub Village and our ongoing partnership. If you missed it, here’s a quick overview of Chloe Lane’s presentation and the exciting details behind the project.
Chloe Lane, an associate at archimania, shared how their expertise shaped the first five studio units for our pilot project on the main campus. These studios were designed specifically to meet the needs of individuals not served by traditional group shelters. These Hub Studios (we now have 10!) play a key role in our ability to keep individuals and families safe while we work with them on permanent housing.
Building on the success of the Hub Studios, we reached out to archimania again to design the new Studios and Cottages for our new project, Hub Village. archimania’s approach emphasizes thoughtful design with natural materials and airy windows to bring in light and views of the outdoors, while also choosing components that can weather the elements and provide stability for all guests. The design balances private units for each individual/family with community-focused areas, such as shared dining, laundry, and activity spaces. Hub Village will be in a neighborhood style that places independent studios and cottages in a community based landscape. In alignment with the current assistance provided at the Hub, Hub Village will offer case management, transportation, meals, and referral services for employment, medical care, and long-term housing. Our goal is to help our neighbors exit homelessness through both autonomy and community.
Our demo studio will be stationed at Otherlands Coffee Bar for the next month – make sure to stop by to see it before it moves to its next location! Stay tuned for further updates on the demo studio’s next location and as Hub Village continues to take shape.
